Ma. Antonia Casanova es Licenciada en Pedagogía e Inspectora Central de Educación en España. Ha desempeñado los puestos de Subdirectora general de educación especial y atención a la diversidad, en el Ministerio de Educación (1996-1999), y de directora general de Promoción Educativa en la Comunidad de Madrid (1999-2007). Representó a España en la Agencia Europea para el desarrollo en necesidades educativas especiales (1996-2001). Entre sus publicaciones recientes, destacan: Evaluación y calidad de centros educativos y Diseño curricular en innovación educativa .

Manuel F. Casanova, M.D. is Gottfried and Gisela Kolb Endowed Chair in Psychiatry, Associate Chair for Research, Department of Psychiatry, The University of Louisville.
Manuel made his residency training in neurology and then spent 3 years doing a fellowship in neuropathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his stay at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he was in charge of Pediatric Neuropathology, a fact which kindled his interest in developmental disorders of the brain. His clinical experience was enhanced by appointments as either a consultant or staff neuropathologist at Sinai Hospital (Maryland), the North Charles Hospital and the D.C. General Hospital.
He spent several years as Deputy Medical Examiner for Washington, D.C., where he gained valuable experience in the post-mortem examination of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and child abuse. His expertise in the field was recognized by honorary appointments as a Scientific Expert for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and as a Professorial Lecturer for the Department of Forensic Science at George Washington University.
Manuel spent 8 years helping to establish two of the most successful brain banks in this country: The Johns Hopkins Brain Resource Center (3 years) and the Brain Bank Unit of the Clinical Brains Disorders Branch at the National Institutes of Mental Health (5 years). At present, he is well published in a multitude of postmortem techniques including neuronal morphometry immunocytochemistry, neurochemistry, and autoradiography.
He has had over twenty years of experience in the neurosciences. Although trained in the classical methods of neurology and neuropathology, his interest has gradually shifted towards the study of abnormalities of cortical circuitry. His research has focused on the cell minicolumn, a vertical conglomerate of 80 to 100 neurons having a common latency of response to stimulation.
Using computerized imaging analysis, he has established the anatomical validity of the cell minicolumn. His earlier work has reported interhemispheric differences in the morphometry of minicolumns that could provide for the speciation of hominids. Localized in Broadmann area 22 — part of Wernicke's language region — the morphometric difference may play a role both in the development of language and in its disorders. His most recent studies have looked for the presence of abnormalities of minicolumnar organization and lateralization in the brains of patients who exhibit language disturbances, including autism, Asperger's syndrome, and dyslexia.
Manuel edited Neocortical Modularity And The Cell Minicolumn and Recent Developments in Autism Research, and coedited Asperger's Disorder.
His papers include Planum Temporale Asymmetry Reversal in Schizophrenia: Replication and Relationship to Gray Matter Abnormalities, Minicolumnar pathology in autism, Temporal lobe pathology in schizophrenia: a quantitative magnetic resonance imaging study, Asymmetry of the planum temporale: methodological considerations and clinical associations, Quantitative analysis of cell columns in the cerebral cortex, and Cortical Gyrification in the Rhesus Monkey: A Test of the Mechanical Folding Hypothesis.
Manuel earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras in 1973 and his M.D. at Escuela de Medicina, Universidad de Puerto Rico, San Juan in 1979.
Mercedes Belinchón Carmona es Licenciada y Doctora en Psicología por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, donde obtuvo el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado en 1986.
En 1983 se incorporó como Profesora Ayudante al Departamento de Psicología General de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. En Enero de 1988 obtuvo la plaza de Profesora Titular de Universidad en dicho Departamento (denominado actualmente de "Psicología Básica"), donde imparte actualmente docencia en las asignaturas de "Psicología del lenguaje" y "Alteraciones del lenguaje y la memoria" (estudios de grado y licenciatura), y en otras asignaturas de postgrado (“Master en Psicología y Educación” y “Master de Psicología Clínica y de la Salud”).
Desde 1989 es coordinadora de Programas de Doctorado en la UAM. En la actualidad, coordina, junto a José Manuel Igoa y María Sotillo, el Programa "Cognición y Trastornos".
Isabel Osorio González es Licenciada en Psicología en 1980 en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Psicomotricista Ministerio de Sanidad y Seguridad Social.
Se especializó en Perturbaciones de la Audición y del Lenguaje -Logopedia- en 1987 en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.Estudio Pedagogía Terapéutica. Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. 1984-85
Sus actividades en el ambito Profesional su trayectoría como Terapeuta Titular de Aula en el Centro de Educación Especial "Leo Kanner" desde enero de 1982, continúo como la subdirectora del Centro del 2002 a 2005.
Actualmente es la Directora del Centro de Educación Especial "Leo Kanner" desde octubre de 2005.
Edel López Aguiar es Licenciado en Psicología Profesor Adjunto Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de la Habana.

Mr. Ioannis Vardakastanis Mr. Vardakastanis is since 1999 President of the European Disability Forum (EDF), the umbrella organization of the European Disability movement.
EDF consists of National Disability Federations from the 27 EU Member States, plus Norway and Iceland. It represents a very broad range of European Organizations of Disabled People in accordance with the diversity of the disability movement.
EDF is the voice of the European Disability movement and acts for the promotion of the disabled people’s human rights within the European Union. Mr Vardakastanis is also the President of National Confederation of Disabled People of Greece since 1993. He represents the European Disability Forum before the UN and at the International Disability Alliance and also participated in the negotiations on the UN CRPD from the beginning till the end.
Mr Vardakastanis has been an active disability rights campaigner throughout his working life and has held a number of key positions: member of the Board of the European Blind Union, member of the Executive Committee of the World Blind Union, Vice President of the Social Platform (form 1999 - 2003), member of the Management Committee (from 1999 - 2007) of the Social Platform, member of the National Committee for the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games to name a few.

María Isabel Bayonas Ibarra, madre de una persona con autismo, posee una dilatada experiencia (desde 1976), en el campo del asociacionismo y de la creación de servicios para las personas autistas, tanto en el ámbito español como en países de Hispanoamérica, con los que mantiene excelentes relaciones.
Entre las múltiples actividades que ha realizado se encuentran las siguientes:
Socio fundador de la Asociación Española de Padres de Niños Autistas -APNA- (Primera Asociación de Padres de Autistas fundada en España), creada en 1976.
Miembro fundador del Consejo Estatal de Representantes de Minusválidos -CERMI-.
Ex vocal de la Comisión Permanente del Real Patronato de Atención a Minusvalías.
Miembro fundador de la Asociación Internacional Autismo Europa -AIAE- (con sede en Bruselas).
Impulsora de la fundación de varias Asociaciones de Padres de Autistas en España y en Hispanoamérica.

Dr. Samira Al-Saad, a mother of a daughter with autism, is the Founder & Director of Jeddah Center for Autism (1993) and Kuwait Center for Autism (1994), & also the Founder & Head of Gulf Autism Union (since 2002). She had Master Degree in Special Needs from USA & Ph.D. from Leicester University in UK.
She is an accomplished writer and translator contributing books on Autism to Arabic literature as well as the Founder & Editor of the first specialized periodical in Autism & Special needs – “Silent Scream” newsletter distributed in the whole Middle East since 2002. In 2007, she received the Kuwait’s first Corporate Social Responsibility award for her whole-hearted, enduring & persistent efforts for Kuwait Autism Society. Her sincere commitment to Autism field has earned her professional membership in International Autism Society, Rehabilitation International, Executive Committee of World Autism Organization, Kuwait Handicapped Society, Islamic Council for Disability & Rehabilitation in Riyadh and Committee of the Higher Council for Handicapped in Kuwait. Dr. Al-Saad is the Founder & the Head of Kuwait Autism Society (2006). She won the prize of U. A. M. Women Society (U.A.E.) in 2003, the prize of the Ideal Mother (Kuwait) in 2006, Jaber Prize for Quality Management for the category of the best establishment run by a Lady (Kuwait) in 2008 & Jan Amos Comenius Medal for 2008 from UNESCO for her work as educator who have made a significant contribution to the development of education in autism field.
